VIDEO: Dual Language Immersion in Lynwood Unified - Giving the Gift of a Second Language

Dual Language Immersion (DLI) is a unique educational model in which students learn to read, write and communicate in English and Spanish. It is also a program Lynwood Unified has been proudly offering at Will Rogers Elementary School since 2014.

Beginning in TK/Kindergarten, native Spanish speakers and native English-speaking students learn together, growing year after year through sixth grade to be biliterate in both languages.

Lynwood Unified's DLI program allows students to develop linguistic and academic competencies in multiple subjects in two languages. The goal is for students to earn the Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma and are better prepared for the 21st century.

“Learning another language is so important to me because I get to communicate with my friends and family without any language barriers,” said DLI student Fatima Giles. “I think students should join the program because it helps them be more fluent in their vocabulary and be proud of their culture. I am proud of being bilingual and bicultural.”
