Superintendent's Community Message | September 13, 2026

Dear Lynwood Unified Community,

On Friday, September 11, our Lynwood Unified community joined the nation in observing the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. We honored the lives lost and expressed our gratitude to the first responders, service members and all those who answered with courage and compassion.

On September 15, we begin recognizing Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to honor the histories, cultures and contributions of Latino and Hispanic communities. This spirit of identity and pride will also guide our Newcomer Summit later this month, where we will welcome new students and families and help them build connections, confidence and belonging in Lynwood Unified.

I am proud to recognize the 15 Lynwood Unified schools that received 2026 PBIS Awards for fostering positive, supportive learning environments. This recognition reflects the educators and staff who set clear expectations, encourage students and create the conditions for every child to feel connected and ready to succeed.

Adding to this excitement, both of our comprehensive high schools have been named among the best for 2026-27 by U.S. News & World Report. Congratulations to the teams at Lynwood High School and Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School for fostering enriching learning environments for all.

Thank you to our families, students, staff and community partners who attended back-to-school nights this past week. We look forward to welcoming more families this week: Wednesday, September 16, from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at Lindbergh, Lugo and Roosevelt elementary schools; and Thursday, September 17, from 5 - 7:00 p.m. at Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School. Please visit your school's calendar and website for details.

Thank you for continuing to honor our shared history, celebrating our students, and remaining connected to the work happening across Lynwood Unified.

Sincerely,

Patrick Gittisriboongul, Ed.D.
Superintendent, Lynwood Unified School District

News & World Report.

Atentamente,

Patrick Gittisriboongul, Ed.D.
